We have nicknames in my family, mine used to be fat-fat (hello therapy?) but also my mom just doesn’t call any of us by our names? She calls me any treat under the sun (buttercup, sweetie pop, cutie cake—anything that can be catagorised under “way over your daily sugar allotment) and it’s adorable. I guess at some point we all do become similar to our mothers because now I do the same and I rarely recognize when I am.
But anyway, in the movie Friday After Next (2002) there is a character named Day-Day and that is the same nickname we have called my brother to this day (spelled dada), I genuinely don’t remember a time where we didn’t. Anyway this movie is in a long list of films that I dig that take place in one day including:
200 Cigarettes
Mallrats
Empire Records
Ferris Buellers Day Off
The Breakfast Club
Clerks (technicality)
The movie—does not age well. There is a bunch of jokes about being gay and sexual assault but at the time of course I laughed. Anyway, we grow and learn to still dig certain movies for what they were at that time in our lives and recognize the ickiness in them.
‘kthxbi!
What I Watched
Anne Lister is back and I am very excited for season two.
I don’t know much about the IRL stories about the female scammers these shows coming out are based on BUT I actually did start watching The Dropout with my partner and it’s really good. This article (that I thought I shared weeks ago) is so good and talks about these white women who have both gotten away with & made bank on it. ALSO ALSO ALSO if you all like those shows I IMPLORE you to watch what was maybe my favorite movie of 2019 “Buffaloed” with the INCREDIBLE Zoey Deutch. It’s not about a scammer girl per say but maybe about a pseudo-scammer girl gone right? I always explain it so shittily but just watch it.
A sport called…..basketball?
What I Re-Watched
More Sex and The City episodes but I am coming to the end as she has officially met The Russian so I have like, what, 2 episodes to go?
I am gonna start a re-watch of Mad Men.
What I Listened To
Started off my week listening to my white 90s playlist (which includes such hits as Ready to Go by Republica, Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger, and many Nirvana hits)
The intro to Inside Out by Eve 6 is INCREDIBLE and I almost forgot that until I listened to it on repeat this week. Also…the video, I was also thinking like, this is someones favorite band and for some reason I think thats cool.
Ok so then that lead me to watching the video for “You get what you give” by New Radicals — which is one of my fav videos of all time? and it’s also a really fucking positive song?
What I Read
Didn’t use up all my free articles so was able to read this Beanie Feldstein profile on The Cut
This wild article on 200 Cigarettes about why it’s not available for streaming. I am absolutely obsessed with this film and have been since the moment I saw it, so much so that for years I hunted down the perfect leopard jacket a lá Courtney Love so that I could eventually do my own velvet dress/leopard jacket combo.
I love that Pamela Anderson ignored literally everything about the Pam & Tommy series and is like “whatever, anyway I’m going to be on Broadway so….”
I do remember watching College Hill and I think this reboot is gonna be hilarious and I am intrigued by this re-boot featuring a wildly odd ass cast but it’s gonna be funny and I hope they put them in a dorm but I know that won’t happen because Nene doesn’t do well with white fridges.
What I Ate
Coffee <3
Sammies and salads
VEGGIES?!
Pancakes and omelettes
Bananas Bananas Bananas
How I Felt
This week as told through Mad Men gifs
Etc.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the scene in “Can’t Hardly Wait” where the letter gets kicked around the party.
