But it’s literally from the 40’s and is called a “screwball comedy” which is usually a fav genre of mine from the golden age of film but not in this case. I literally, did not get it but I think they just wanted to have Cary Grant look hot in a suit while answering a telephone which, congrats they succeeded.
Anyway, I finished Mrs. Maisel this week and I love/hate to say it but damn this show is producing some great moments in television. IDK why I hate to say it but I do. Like the story is dope, it’s written at a gorgeous pace, it all makes sense and they are ready to wrap up with next season which feels spot on. But, that leads me to some moments in television that have stuck with me in the best ways, that I revisit when I need/want to and another was just added with this season finale of Maisel. but one of the other episodes was already part of my list which is:
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Season 2 Episode 10 Last 10 minutes starting at 49:00 (Lenny’s monologue is phew, the realization that so many people have when they want to return to themselves or are ready to take a leap in some way?)
The Good Place - Season 3 Episode 12 Last 3 minutes and 30 seconds but watch the scene before for context (I just, I can’t really explain how i feel about this scene but my god it helped me)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - Season 4 Episode 8 Last 10 minutes and 15 seconds THIS. THIS ABSOLUTELY THIS.
‘kthxbi!
What I Watched
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - I love the show (Midge is selfish ‘tho lets make that clear) because it’s one of the best kinda-sorta-homage shows (You can’t sit here and tell me they didn’t watch tons of Joan Rivers footage and dig into her life while creating this show, and Shy Baldwin is based on Johnny Mathis) but because they do such a GREAT job at these historical characters—namely Lenny fucking Bruce.
They have been doing an IMMACULATE job at this portrayal and (Spoiler Alert) the season finale was just another showing of that. It culminated with Lenny’s Feb 4 1961 show at Carnegie Hall and holy shit, it was perfect. This is one of the best episodes of television I’ve seen in a long time and it really knocks it out in the last 6 minutes. So much so that I went and found a recording of the actual show (and now want on vinyl) and it was so spot on but that actor has been killing it as Lenny snaps and all. Anyway - very great.
Also, the episode ended by playing Benjamin Britten’s Friday Afternoons: Cuckoo which is featured in “Moonrise Kingdom” and so duh I love a full circle film moment for me.
Also, Also the episode featured music again by Blossom Dearie who my grandpa adored and so phew - this like 1 hour of TV was a lot for me lol.
Peckhams Finest / Ali Wong: Don Wong / Taylor Tomilson: Look At You / Gilded Age / The Andy Warhol Diaries / Ms. 45 / Inventing Anna / The Dropout
What I Re-Watched
Both Sex and The City Movies
Some episodes of Schitt’s Creek
Luca (Kinda)
What I Listened To
I’ve been listening to a few podcasts where some members of a show host it and go through each episode from the top. but they are all so fucking boring? It’s like, its a good idea in theory cos how many times can one re-watch their favorite series (for me the answer is a million) but they need to spice them up a little. Like, re-cap each episode and then tell us dope behind the scenes stuff, funny shit, chat to people we care about, tell us how you would have had a character react, etc but PLEASE don’t sit there for an hour having an odd and forced conversation with each other.
Welcome to our Show podcast about New Girl but — I think I’m done ‘cos it’s terrible? I’ll stay subscribed because you never know, a good guest might show up
Truest Blood podcast about True Blood but — it is also very boring. It sucks ‘cos 2 of my fav characters on the show (Pam and Jessica) are the hosts but again I’ll stay subscribed.
