I had a whole thing that I wrote about the emotional absence I’d experienced growing up and I connected it to the film Matilda but…I changed my mind about publishing it.

I worked on it, edited it, and then about 5 minutes ago right before publishing—I pressed delete.

I’m really grateful for all my readers and subscribers and I’m working on a fashion piece and another edition of Rewatch Diaries that I’m excited to bring you in September. Also…I’m going to start watching Gilmore Girls for the first time.

So for now, no trauma just vibes and the recap of what I’ve been watching this past month!

What I Watched

• Reba

  • I finished the entire series in about a month and boy do I have SOME THOUGHTS!

    • The food stamp episode is crazy and so is the one where the Black family comes to stay with them because of Hurricane Katrina. It’s….a lot.

    • The last season also focuses A LOT on weight, which is kinda weird because the actress who played Kyra was gone for like two seasons before because she was seeking treatment for an eating disorder.

    • All that to say it was giving early 2000s comedy and it was great for what it was Van must have back issues to this day because my goodness did he carry this show.

• House of The Dragon

  • I feel like we waited for a lot and got very little. I say this as I watch the finale at midnight. It was…boring? And now we have to wait like 8 million years to see if Alicent kept her word and to learn if Corlys is still going to be a deadbeat dad? ANYWAY SIGN ME UP I’LL BE WAITING LOL I’M LITERALLY NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

  • This is a show about the mistakes of undeserving fathers in power and their daughters-turned-mothers who pay the price.

  • GENERATIONAL TRAUMA IS ALIVE AND WELL!

  • Also P.S. fuck Corlys. Just like a nigga to wait for his wife to die to actually care for her—and then name a boat after THE NICKNAME THAT WAS GIVEN TO HER AFTER ONE OF THE MOST TRAUMATIC/FUCKED UP MOMENTS OF HER LIFE as an homage is so fucking backward.

• The Brothers Sun

  • This was a long-ass watch lol but anything for Michelle Yeoh right?!

• Longlegs

  • When will I stop listening to the internet? Never but still this movie sucked and was also….not scary.

  

• The Boys

  • Here’s the thing—I don’t LOVE this show (I much prefer GenV) but the recent season has two new characters that are INSANE.

    • Sister Sage played by Susan Heyward is the smartest PERSON in the world. The character is also from DETROIT! Which makes me so happy. She’s a terrible person and I love it very very much.

    • Firecracker played by Valerie Curry (real-life lesbian) is fucking insane. She is a hyper-right-wing YouTube girlie with limited powers who gets a platform. SHE IS BATSHIT CRAZY and the actress plays the role so fucking well.

• Supacell

  • EVERYBODY SHUT THE HELL UP RIGHT NOW! SHUT UP LUTZ!¹ I am only on episode like 2 but, phew.

• Interview With The Vampire

  • Here’s the thing…if you ever heard me talk shit about this show—No you did not!

  • This season is incredible and also gives me a reason to scream “Girl, we see them” at the screen.

  • Also, TALK ABOUT TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS!

    

    A spectacularly horny, fashionable, and wildy well-written show. SPEAK INTO THE MIC ABOUT WHYYYYYY!

• I have a new obsession and it’s in the form of the We’re Here To Help podcast. Gareth and Jake are so silly, stupid, and fun and it’s actually one of few podcasts that I like to WATCH! This episode with the Doll Caller is my favorite and I have watched them all.

The film is about them entering a new stage in their over 30-year friendship since Harper’s transition. It was at Sundance this year and I KEPT FUCKING MISSING IT but I’m so excited that Netflix snatched it up. The interview and chat are in the latest print edition of Netflix Queue.

  

• THEE

  Gloria Alamrew
  wrote a piece on motherhood for Hazlitt and it’s beautiful. I’m not a mum but you don’t have to be to enjoy this. It’s honestly just a really personal look at Black motherhood. I assume it has so many layers and likely so many more when you’re a Black mum. It’s beautiful, read it, share it, and vibe with it.
